Will Labor and Material Shortages Delay My New Roof?

Paragon against labor shortages

Virtually every business sector is currently hampered by labor shortages, supply chain problems, and rising material prices. Since the construction industry is no exception, your new roof could definitely be delayed or cost considerably more than you thought. The good news is that you can improve the likelihood of meeting your project goals and budget simply by choosing the right roofing supplier.

Roofing Industry Supply and Price Challenges

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Commercial Construction Index (CCI) publishes a quarterly economic index, which gauges the outlook for the construction market. According to the 2021 Q4 index, “a majority of contractors report high difficulty finding skilled workers, up from 55% who said the same last quarter.” Along with labor shortages, the index said that most contractors are experiencing “at least one product shortage, up 24 points from a year ago.”

In addition to these shortages, the AGC (Association of General Contractors) recently reported that contractors will have difficulty “keeping pace with additional price spikes for many key construction materials.” Price hikes include a 5-10% increase on prices for asphalt shingles and residential roofing accessories that went into effect at the end of January 2022.

Paragon Roof Systems Stepped Up to Answer Roofing Needs

Many problems currently impacting our economy center on petroleum related products. Since asphalt shingles are newly made from petroleum, the price increase was expected, and even more price hikes could happen in the near future. Similarly, prices of lumber “doubled from November 2021 to January 2022.”

Paragon Roof Systems offers environmentally friendly roofing materials that are made from recycled polymer. These beautiful composite roofing options offer an excellent alternative to petroleum and wood shingles. Paragon Roof System products are available because we anticipated the current industry problems and took significant steps to prepare. We’ve been able to maintain lead times despite all of the problems, rather than having to wait out the market as other suppliers are doing.

Paragon Roofing Products Simplify Installation

Even the labor shortage problem can be somewhat alleviated by the innovative design of Paragon roof shingles, which are considerably faster and less complicated to install than conventional roof materials. Paragon’s Spanish high barrel tile and mission tile have a 14” exposure, which means only 85 pieces per roofing square. Installers have fewer pieces to handle and fewer fasteners to use for faster installation. They are also gun-nailable, which adds to the ease of installation.
